Alex Rangel is a professional goalkeeping coach with over 10 years of experience, coaching athletes at youth, collegiate, semi-professional, and professional levels. He has helped teams achieve championships and is dedicated to developing competitive, disciplined, and confident athletes while fostering their growth both on and off the field. Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Columbia College Missouri, and has completed several USSF and NSCAA diplomas, including working towards his USSF B License.
Throughout his career, Alex has held coaching and operational roles at various institutions, including the University of North Florida, Grand Canyon University, Oregon State University, and Real Salt Lake Arizona. His responsibilities have ranged from designing goalkeeping training sessions to coordinating team travel and handling the day-to-day operations of sports programs. He has contributed to the success of teams such as FC Tucson and Pima Community College, both of which have achieved national titles.
In addition to his work with major institutions, Alex is the founder and owner of Top Hand Goalkeeping, a specialized coaching program dedicated to developing youth goalkeepers. Established in 2015, Top Hand Goalkeeping provides a comprehensive curriculum that integrates modern coaching philosophies with an emphasis on technical skills, vision, communication, and leadership. Alex has positively impacted hundreds of young goalkeepers, helping many progress to higher levels of play. Under his guidance, Top Hand Goalkeeping has become a trusted resource for developing confident and capable athletes, recognized for producing goalkeepers who excel in competitive environments.
Alex has had the privilege of working with many talented goalkeepers who have gone on to excel professionally, including Luis Barraza, MLS goalkeeper for New York City FC; Carlos Merancio, USL League One Spokane FC goalkeeper; and Andreu Cases Mundet, a former La Masia product who went to college at Wake Forest. Additionally, Alex has worked with Jon Bakero, who played at Wake Forest, won the prestigious MAC Hermann Award, and was drafted 5th overall in the MLS by Chicago Fire; Aaron Herrera, who signed a homegrown contract with Real Salt Lake in MLS; and Tate Schmitt, a homegrown player with Real Salt Lake and a Louisville All-American. His influence on these and many other players reflects his ability to nurture talent and prepare athletes for the highest levels of competition.
